Cleaning and Sanitization:

  • Northstar will continue to clean facilities in a normal fashion utilizing our cleaning service.

  • Heavily-touched surfaces will be cleaned regularly.

  • Students will be encouraged to wash or sanitize their hands regularly.

  • Northstar will provide teachers with the necessary cleaning supplies for their rooms. Teachers are not required to clean surfaces every time students transition to/from their classrooms but must clean every day.

Face Coverings:

  • All Northstar students and staff will have the option to wear face coverings; they will not be required.

  • Northstar desires this to be a family choice. Families who have a desire for their children to wear masks during school hours will be responsible for having that conversation with their students.

  • Northstar faculty and staff will not enforce the wearing of face coverings.

Quarantine:

  • If a healthcare provider directs a student/employee to self-quarantine, Northstar must be notified immediately by emailing our covid coordinator at covid@northstarchristian.info. The student/employee must follow the Monroe County Department of Public Health (MCDPH) orders and remain out of the school building during a quarantine period.

  • Northstar will work with MCDPH on contact tracing among students/employees where feasible.

  • MCDPH does have an updated guidance for both vaccinated and unvaccinated students/employees.

Negative Cases:

  • If a student/employee tests negative for COVID-19, they can return to school as soon as they are symptom free for a period of 24 hours. The student/employee must submit the negative test results to Northstar before they may return. (see Covid Symptom Flowchart).

Positive Cases:

  • If a student/employee tests positive for COVID-19, he/she must follow the MCDPH orders to self-quarantine.

  • If the student is sick, they would be exempt from school work during their COVID-19 illness.

  • If the student is healthy…

    • Grade school students will be assigned work to complete at home while under quarantine with the option of virtual learning.

    • Middle and high school students will be required to log in to join their classes virtually while under quarantine.

  • A student/employee who tests positive for COVID-19 can return to school once they have been cleared by MCDPH, after being symptom free for a period of 24 hours. (see Covid Symptom Flowchart).

Symptom/Temperature Checking:

  • Northstar is no longer requiring temperature or symptom checks for students, employees, visitors, or volunteers as they enter the building.

  • If a student or employee has a fever of 100.0 degrees or higher, (not masked by Tylenol or Ibuprofen), vomiting, diarrhea, lice, or other potential communicable diseases (chicken pox, measles, mumps, pink eye, or strep throat), they must stay home until they have both a negative covid test and they are symptom-free for a period of 24 hours as per MCDPH policy (see Covid Symptom Flowchart).

Social Distancing

  • We believe that learning happens best in community together. We look forward to resuming collaborative learning in small groups, discipleship groups, chapel, and gathering together for events. Social distancing will be enforced where possible.

  • Northstar will create seating charts and cohorts where social distancing is not possible. This ensures that in the event of a positive COVID case, it would have a minimal impact on the students or staff that would be required to quarantine.
